520 | # | # | |a It is generally accepted the idea that Euripides is the main dramatic ancestor for Menander. This idea supposes also that Aristophanes, the oldest comedy author we still keep, is slightly related to the Western comic tradition. Nevertheless, many of the plays by Aristophanes are full with references to the tragedies of Euripides. This paper is focused in analyzing the parody that Aristophanes makes of Euripides’s Helen in his comedy Thesmophoriazusae. With this analysis, I try to prove that some of the main characteristics of euripidean Tragedy, specially the use of the stichomythia, became a esential part of the comic genre, thanks to it inclusión to the genre that Aristophanes did trough his parody. |
