In it Moreto reproduces the essential situations of the literary genre and constructs a conflict of love and honor. Nonetheless, he presents asymmetrical characters and (using a mixture of tragedy and comedy as prescribed by Lope in his Arte Nuevo, (1609) adopts an ironic and pragmatic point of view that undermines the dramatic quality of the tragedy. In spite of such a systematic deconstruction of a prestigious literary genre, the public appreciated the innovation of La fuerza de la ley. Nevertheless, Moreto never used again this new theatrical formula

Siguiendo los parámetros de la tragedia de honra diseñados por Lope de Vega y Calderón de la Barca, Moreto reproduce las situaciones esenciales del género y traza un conflicto de amor y honor, mas rompe con la simetría de sus caracteres y, llevando hasta sus últimas consecuencias la mezcla de lo trágico y lo cómico enunciada por Lope en el Arte Nuevo (1609), adopta un punto de vista irónico y pragmático que va socavando el dramatismo de la tragedia. Pese a la demoledora y sistemática deconstrucción que realiza de un género tan prestigioso, el público supo apreciar los aires de renovación que traía La fuerza de la ley. Sin embargo, Moreto no continuó con la fórmula teatral que había descubierto
