Through the diachronic analysis we can observe the development that has turned them into invariable, or at least almost invariable, expressions. As expected -it also occurs when comparing other linguistic expressions- we can appreciate several differences regarding the circumstances and chronology of their respective processes of grammaticalization: the negative expression de ninguna manera has developed throughout the centuries and has changed enormously until it has been formally fixed; the phrase en absoluto, appeared later, does not know formal variations, and its negative value, growing in frequency of use but as yet non-exclusive, has been acquired due to its presence in contexts expressing a negation. |
